Published 19 August

Coda Jade is a young, First Nations artist who was born in Windsor on Dharug land. Her mob is Goreng Goreng, near Bundaberg, Queensland. She grew up in Blacktown and is currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sydney. Coda has received scholarships from the GO Foundation, JB Fairfax and the National Art School and her works were featured in Vivid Sydney 2022.

Coda Jade’s work was inspired by the traditional knowledge of the Bardi people of Western Australia in a book called How The Birds Got Their Colours, told by Mary Albert and compiled by Pamela Lofts.

This piece on display around Westpoint was one of eight pieces developed as part of Coda Jade’s HSC major work at Evans High School in Blacktown as part of the Solid Ground Program. In partnership with Carriageworks and Blacktown Arts, Solid Ground provides education, training and employment pathways for First Nations Australian youth.

‘My whole life is an experience, whether that be good or bad. I paint things I see in my life. I paint my experiences. I paint stories.’

‘I love to share stories through my art.’
